Workshop

The Primitive Hut

by Hald & Ravnborg
Year - 2021

Investigation - Execution - Exhibition
The project is supported by Dreyer Foundation and Kuben Housing Foundation. All wood is sponsored by Dinesen.

As part of our research project "Bygningsbeslagets Æstetik," which focuses on the aesthetic, sustainable, and tectonic potentials of building joints in a contemporary architectural context, we have formulated a task that seeks to explore the fundamental mechanisms of architecture.
Therefore, we have attempted to define The Primitive Hut - the origin of architecture.
The goal of the workshop is to become acquainted with the anatomy and motor skills of the building in 1:1 scale. The building's tectonics are revealed through simplification and visualization of the pavilion's joints. The pavilion is constructed with pine wood, and all connections are bound together with sisal rope. By limiting the number of materials to a minimum, the focus can be on creating space, rhythm, light, and shadow - the fundamental elements of architecture.
The facade is designed by the students and is also suspended with ropes.
