Proposal

FLØTINGSMUSEUM & VÅTMARKSCENTER

Proposal by Hald & Ravnborg

Proposal for a new log driving museum and marshland center in Fetsund, outside of Oslo. The building consists of four large volumes facing the river Glomma, with integrated courtyards in-between. The buildings are connected by a corridor pulled backwards from the river, to generate a natural flow, and to let the nature in.

The project is based on a synergy between dissemination, research and nature. The museum tries to activate the visitors with exhibitions and activities both inside and outside in the courtyards and along the banks of the river.

The museum is built in wood and are featuring a timber construction with a great visual presence. The black painted wood cladding stands in contrast to windows and timber construction, that is kept in natural tones. Overall, the museum has a subtle yet strong appearance with enigmatic qualities that make it fit into the site without disturbing the atmosphere more than necessary.
